My ride into Hurricane Ike.

Friday September 12, 2008

Working in the media, I was able to get the opportunity to fly into Hurricane Ike on September 12, 2008.

Got Google Earth? Then download our flight path and see where our mission took us and what data we were able to obtain and send to the National Hurricane Center. Mission 32 Ike (kmz file)

I'll post the blog and videos in the coming days.... I'm really exhausted and tired from the trip... In the meantime I have added some links and pictures of the trip...

Tune into News 13 This Morning September 16-19 to find out more about Jessica and Brandon’s journey.

This was my ride below, Air Force Recon 301... known as mission 32 for Hurricane Ike. The 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, known as the Hurricane Hunters of the Air Force Reserve, is one-of-a-kind: the only Department of Defense organization still flying into tropical storms and hurricanes--since 1944. They have ten Lockheed-Martin WC-130J aircraft and crews are part of the 403rd Wing, based at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi.
